Late Shri Vishnu Waman Thakur Charitable Trust was formed in the
year 1988 under the president-ship of
Shri Hitendraji Thakur,
MLA of Vasai Taluka. The trust was formed to handle several concern and to uplift
a remote area like Vasai. The provision of education , medical and social facilities
to the residents of such area was the primary focus.
Accordingly, in 1989 itself the
trust started a school
“UTKARSHA VIDYALAYA” . As of
today , around 3500 student
are studying in the school. Thus by providing educational facility it provided an opportunity for the students dwelling in the rural belt.
Though the school initially started in Marathi Medium very soon it incorporated
the semi- English medium as well.
The fact that it is easy to study in mother tongue, but English is equally important
to compete in the globalizing scenario has led to the decision that, education will
be provide in the twin medium of Marathi & English. Thereafter the trust felt
the need to provide further education of students having completed schooling .
 In the year
2000 , the trust started a college known as “ VIVA COLLEGE ” & in a
span of 5 years the strength of the college has risen from
35 students to 7000
students.
Having updated itself with concerned requirements , the college now provides &
different courses , in addition to the traditional courses of the
Science ,Commerce
and Arts Streams ,which are B.Sc(Information Technology),B.Sc(Computer Science),B.Sc(BIO-TECH),
B.M.S(Bachelor of Management Studies),B.M.M(Bachelor Of Mass Media),B.ComBanking
& Insurance) ,B.Com(Accounting & Finance) & Bachelor Hotel &Tourism Management .
 To mention a few achievements of our students ,within such a short span of inception
of college ,our student of IT course stood
first in Mumbai University last year.
In addition to various extra curriculum activities to , one of our student has been
selected to represent Maharastra at National level chess championship. Further our
student has been selected to represent Maharastra at National level Classical singing
competition .All this achievements indicate that out students are encouraged for
overall personality development .The trust relies on Young and dynamic talent and
hence the average age of our staff is just 26 years.
In 2004 the trust started its B school under the name “VIVA Institute
of Management Studies”. It is also noteworthy that most of our 2 nd
year students have got placements in big organizations.
